Public transport motors ahead
Irish people took over 7.7 million more public transport journeys last year - with passenger numbers up by 3.6pc.
All State-owned public transport operators recorded passenger growth last year, according to figures released by the National Transport Authority (NTA). Dublin Bus - which carries over half of all public transport users in Ireland - proved the most popular, with 119.5 million passengers. This accounted for a 2.8pc increase on 2014 figures.
The Luas saw the largest growth, up 6.1pc to 34.6 million passengers, followed by Iarnród Eireann which was up 5.3pc to 39.8 million. Bus Éireann also recorded a 1.7pc growth, carrying 30.2 million passengers throughout the year.
