Planes forced to use alternative strip at Dublin Airport due to damage to main runway
Outgoing flights leaving from Dublin Airport this afternoon are experiencing delays due to "damage to the primary runway".
Passengers in waiting aircraft have reported that they have been informed of the damage by their pilot - and are taxiing to an alternative runway.
A spokesperson for the Dublin Airport Authority told independent.ie that an investigation team was being dispatched to assess the extent of the damage.
Initial reports suggested that there was debris on the runway that could be some tarmac or concrete from the runway itself.
This has now been confirmed by the DAA who have reported that the main strip will be out of use for the next few hours while it is being repaired.
The spokesperson reported that there are currently no delays to flights as a result of the repair operation.
