Two pigs' heads have been left outside a church in a shocking act of race hate.
Police were called to Northumberland Street, which runs between the Shankill Road and Falls Road, at 10.30am on Saturday morning.
Two pigs' heads with racially offensive language written on them had been left outside St Luke's Church.
The church is owned by the Church of Ireland and is up for sale, but is currently being used by a community group.
The church wardens said they were aware of rumours that members of the Muslim community had shown interest in buying the church, but no offers had been made.
Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said: "Officers are currently carrying out enquiries into this incident which must be condemned by all.
"I am appealing to anyone who has any information about this incident to pass that information on to officers at Tennent Street on 101 or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
