Pedestrian (40s) killed after being struck by van while crossing road

A man in his 40s has been killed in a road traffic accident in north Dublin.

The pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a van shortly after 11pm last night.

The incident occurred while the man was crossing the Finglas Road in Dublin 11.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Dublin City Morgue in Marino where a post mortem is to be arranged.

Part of the Finglas Road, close to Tolka Valley Road junction, was closed for forensic investigation.

The inbound carriageway has since reopened and there are no traffic restrictions in place. 

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Finglas Garda Station on 01 6667500, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
