Parts of Waterford city evacuated after hoax bomb alert

Parts of Waterford city were closed down this afternoon after a bomb scare was reported to gardaí.

The Mall in Waterford city centre was closed to traffic and buildings in the area were evacuated.

WLRFM is reporting that a person rang Gardai to inform them a bomb had been left on the premises of the Cafe Royal in the Theatre Royal.

Armed gardai were seen in the area.


The Mall area was closed while the Theatre Royal and City Hall were searched.

A garda spokesman confirmed that the incident has now been cleared and no suspect device has been discovered.
