A 45-year-old man was detained when officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau stopped a vehicle on Conyingham Road, Islandbridge in Dublin, on Saturday.

They seized a significant quantity of heroin and cocaine.

During a follow-up search at a house in Ballyfermot a large quantity of heroin, cocaine and cannabis herb was discovered.

A 24-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman were arrested.

Gardai said the total street value of the drugs seized in this investigation is estimated to be in excess of €1.6m, pending analysis.

The three arrested are currently being detained at Lucan and Finglas garda stations under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A garda spokesman said the investigation was ongoing.

The seizure was part of an intelligence-led operation targeting drug traffickers operating in the Ballyfermot area.
