Patrick Kavanagh, of the Association of Secondary Teachers' Ireland (ASTI) and St Mary's CBS, Enniscorthy, agreed there was nothing to cause pupils any trouble.

Orla Ni Shuilleabhain, a teacher at the Institute of Education, Dublin, said that in the aural, while Section 1 "was nice and gave scope to them all", she thought Section 2 was challenging in parts.

Jim O'Dea, of Rathdown School, Glenageary, Co Dublin, and ASTI welcomed the way Classical Studies questions were broken down, so that pupils could earn marks for individual parts.

About 100 pupils sat LC Latin nationwide yesterday.
