A new trial date has been set for a Dublin-based garda accused of possessing child pornography.

Garda Joe O'Connor (53), with an address in west Dublin, had been sent forward earlier this year from the District Court charged with possession of child pornography, contrary to Section 6(1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

The alleged incident took place between July 30, 2011 and August 2, 2011 at his home.

His trial was due to start today but lawyers in the case told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court it is currently not in a position to proceed.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring set a new trial date of April 29, 2015.
