THE newest arrival at Dublin Zoo was precariously clinging to its mother's back as she dangled from the treetops.

And Eddie O'Brien, team leader at the zoo, says it's still too early to tell whether the Goeldi's monkey born on May 24 is male or female. So zoo visitors being invited to name the new addition may have to play it safe.

"The baby was about 20g when it was born. It's probably just doubled its weight at the moment," said Mr O'Brien.

The Goeldi's monkey is a small, rare native of the Amazon, and when fully grown will be no bigger than a squirrel.

People are being asked to suggest names based around its South American origin, which can be submitted online. The winner will be announced during the zoo's 'Monkey Moments' weekend on Sunday next.
