A new €1 stamp has gone on sale to commemorate 50 years of free second-level education in Ireland.

The stamp features Lauren Dench and Michael Duke two students of Gorey Community school, Co Wexford, one of the  largest second-level schools in the country.

A First day Cover, designed to accompany the stamp, includes a portrait of  Education Minister Donogh O’Malley who introduced the reform that changed the face of Irish education.
