Mystery winner scoops area's fourth multi-million jackpot
A LUCKY punter in Clare has scooped the county's fourth multi-million euro lotto jackpot win in less than a year.
The 'golden' ticket to Saturday's €4,433,754 jackpot was sold at Reddan's Store and Post Office in Sixmilebridge on Friday. The family-run shop, owned by Patsy and Tony Reddan, has enjoyed previous National Lottery success, but nothing on the scale of this latest win. "We got the call about 10am and people have been coming in since checking their tickets," said Kate Reddan.
"There's great crack altogether and anyone who wins €5 lets out a scream and sure we all think it's them then.
"We have had no indication who the winner might be and we might never know. They mightn't have checked their ticket yet or they could just decide to remain anonymous."
Kate's brother John is a former Clare inter-county hurler and was captain of Clare's 1997 All-Ireland winning side.
Current Clare hurling boss Davy Fitzgerald is from Sixmilebridge and his mother is known to be a regular at Reddan's
However, she described the shop as extremely busy on a Friday and she could not confirm if the mother of the hurling boss plays the lotto. "Our biggest win previously was in the Euro- Millions when one lady won €430,000," Kate added.
Clare has enjoyed an unprecedented run of luck over the past year in particular, with four lottery wins being scooped in the county since last August and six in total since 2008.
The latest came in March of this year when a €24 mix-play winning ticket scooped €8,302,204. That ticket was bought in Kilrush in west Clare.
