The first incident occurred just after 5.30am when a blue saloon car, allegedly driven by the men, appeared to have broken down close to the Big Ball in Naas, Co Kildare.

A passing motorist driving a grey VW Polo stopped to help the two young occupants of the car before his car was stolen.

The Polo was driven away at speed before crashing at Kerry Group facility in Millennium Park.

The two young men then flagged down a second car – a security van - which they proceeded to steal.

There are unconfirmed reports that the driver of the van was injured in the theft.

The second car was crashed soon afterwards at the N7 Business Park.

The two men (one aged in his teens and the other in his twenties) were arrested at the scene by gardai and are currently being held at Naas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
