Motorist with no NCT, insurance or licence caught driving to meet friend hospitalised in road accident

This is the moment gardaí stopped a driver with no insurance, licence or NCT who was on his way to visit his friend who was in hospital after a road accident.

Officers in South Dublin stopped the Renault Scenic on Tuesday night shortly after 9am during a Mandatory Alcohol Test (MAT). The stop took place on the Belgard Road, Tallaght.

Writing on the @GardaTraffic twitter account officers said: "DMR [Dublin Metropolitan Region] Sth traffic stop car. No ins/ lic/nct. On way to see friend in hospital who was in traffic accident! car seized."

The driver, who is in his early 40’s,  will be served with a summons for the alleged offences.

Meanwhile gardaí in Donegal tweeted an image this morning of a travelling with defective tyres.

They wrote: "Customs/RSA/ c/point with Buncrana Traffic stop lorry test expired for trailer & both rear tyres defective.  FCPN [Fixed Charge Penalty Notice].
