Motorcyclist dies after fatal road traffic collision

A man in his forties was killed in a motorbike crash this afternoon.

Gardai in Roscommon are appealing for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision which took place at Summerhill, Athlone.

The man sustained serious injuries when his motorcycle was in collision with a car.

Gardai report that the crash took place at approximately 1pm today.

He was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and taken by Ambulance to University Hospital Galway where gardai say he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators have closed the road pending an examination of the area by forensic experts. The local Coroner has been notified.
