Motorcyclist (20s) killed after bike leaves road striking barrier

A man in his 20s has died after his motorbike left the road he was travelling on struck a barrier.

The incident occurred east of Mulligar town on the old N4 at around 11.20am this morning.

The man was seriously injured in the incident at Heathstown in Coralstown.

He was taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Garda forensic investigators are currently examining the scene.

The road is closed and local traffic diversions are in place and the local coroner has been notified.
