A thrilled family can't believe their luck after getting their beloved pet dog back - six months after she was stolen.

Bichon Frise Coco was stolen from the family's house in Wexford last October and there had been no sign of her since.

Luckily when she turned up in the capital last week someone contacted Dublin SPCA, who were able to track down her family.

The animal charity said on Facebook today: "Last Thursday we took a call from a member of the public to say a little dog was loose on the road in an estate in Tallaght D24 and that it looked in a bad way.

"When our inspector found Coco she was neglected.

"She was terrified, dirty, matted, and had very sore skin but when he got her back to the shelter he scanned her and realised she was microchipped.

"Cocos family couldn’t believe it when they received the phone call to say she had been found and as you can see Coco looks pretty pleased to see them too. (watch the moment she realises who they are!)"

Dublin SPCA is urging all pet owners to make sure their furry friends are microchipped and registered.

They said: "Once again we see the importance of having our pet’s microchipped and registered, If Coco’s family had not done this they would probably never have seen her again!"

The heartwarming video has already been viewed a staggering 97,000 times.
