ANOTHER 2,000 people had their discretionary medical cards or GP visit cards returned this week as part of the government's climbdown following a public outcry over unpopular reviews.
A spokeswoman for the Health Service Executive (HSE) said 2,085 more cards were restored on top of the 4,151 which had already been given back since the government decision nearly three weeks ago.
The 6,236 discretionary medical cards have been given back to people who lost the benefit between July 2011 to May 31, 2014, after they had completed a HSE review.
Around 15,300 people in all have been promised they will get them back and the exercise was due to be completed by the middle of July, although it is unclear if the target will be met.
