Gardai are questioning the man over the alleged arson attack.

A man was being questioned by gardai over an alleged arson attack on offices of a solicitor who represented disgraced TD Michael Lowry over tax charges.

A 44-year-old man was detained last night under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at the Nenagh Garda Station in Co Tipperary.

A man entered the Main Street, Borrisokane, law office of solicitor Michael Collins at 9.20am yesterday and poured what is believed to be petrol on the stairs.

He was challenged by Mr Collins, who managed to force the intruder out of the building, but the suspect had allegedly managed to set fire to the fluid, causing slight damage to the door.

However, neither Mr Collins or his staff – who managed to subdue the suspect until gardai arrived – were injured.

Mr Collins, who has legal practices in Borrisokane and Nenagh, Co Tipperary, as well as Portumna, Co Galway, could not be reached for comment last night.
