Man left 'bloodied' after vicious broad daylight attack on main street

A man is in Gardaí custody following a brutal attack witnessed by hundreds this morning in Drogheda, County Louth.

Shortly after 11:30am, two men were seen jumping from a van setting upon another near a pedestrian crossing next to the building which houses the Drogeda Tourist Office.

The brutal assault took place on the busy West Street, the main artery through the town, and was witnessed by dozens of people as they went about their morning shop.

Gardaí confirmed the incident, and said they had arrested one man in connection with “a serious assault on West Street in Drogheda.”

They said the victim had been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, and was “being treated for non-fatal injuries”.

It is understood that well over a hundred people gathered to watch the attack as it happened.
