A MAN in his 40s has been arrested in connection with a vicious sexual assault on a young man with special needs during the Rose of Tralee International Festival.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested yesterday afternoon following the incident which occurred in the Clash area of Tralee town centre, at around midnight last Thursday, August 14.
The man is being held at Tralee garda station tonight as the investigation continues.
Exact details of the alleged attack remain unclear but local gardai launched a major investigation into the incident with a number of detectives assigned to the case.
A suspect was identified and businesses in the Castle Street area of the town provided gardai with CCTV footage taken in the locality in the period immediately before the alleged assault.
Bar and door staff from pubs and businesses in the area were interviewed as authorities attempted to trace the suspect’s movements prior to the attack.
It was understood the chief suspect is not from the Tralee or north Kerry area and may have arrived in the town to attend a concert by country star Nathan Carter that took place in The Rose of Tralee Festival Dome earlier on Thursday evening.
