A man has been extradited from Holland to face charges relating to an attempted cash in transit robbery in Dublin five years ago.

Gareth Hutch (33) of Drumalee Avenue, North Circular Road, Dublin 7 was arrested under a European Arrest Warrant two weeks ago. He was flown to Dublin Airport today where he was met by detectives at 2.20 pm.

In 2010 Mr Hutch was charged with attempted robbery of a cash in transit van on Foxborough Road in Lucan on May 19, 2009. He was also charged with possession of a sawn-off shotgun on the same occasion.

A vacation sitting today of Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard a bench warrant was issued for Mr Hutch after he failed to turn up for his trial in June 2012.

Detective Garda Padraig Jennings told Judge Sarah Berkeley that gardaí believe Mr Hutch was living in Europe for two years until his arrest. Mr Hutch’s solicitor said there was no application for bail at this stage.

Judge Berkeley remanded Mr Hutch in custody to appear again on October 8, next.
