Man dies and woman injured after being struck by SUV in Dublin

A man has been killed and a woman was injured when they were struck by an SUV in West Dublin on Tuesday evening.

The accident took place shortly before 9pm on the Newcastle Road, between Newcastle and Lucan.

A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed that the pair were hit by a 4x4.

The man, who is in his 50s, was seriously injured and later died while his female companion was hospitalised.

He is the fourth pedestrian to die since the weekend.

On Monday night two elderly women were killed shortly after stepping off a bus in Co Louth.

Josie Duff (79) and Kathy McDonald (70), who were first cousins, died following the collision near Ardee.

And Margaret Webster (50), from Croan, Dunnamaggin, Co Kilkenny, died at Green Street in Callan shortly before 6pm on Sunday.

It is understood Ms Webster may have fallen or stumbled immediately before being struck by a car.
