Man arrested after a suspect package found at Garda station

A man has been arrested after a suspect package was discovered beside Store Street Garda station in central Dublin this morning.

The alarm was raised at around 6.30am.

Gardai immediately sealed off the scene and closed the road  and the back of Busaras bus station.

The bomb squad arrived just before 7am and an inspection of the suspect package immediately commenced.

The Jacobs Inn hostel was also evacuated during the operation.

In a statement, Gardai said they arrested a man in his mid-40s after the incident.

The man was stopped and searched this morning in Store Street area, Dublin and is currently detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Irishtown Garda Station.

The Army EOD were called to the scene after 6a.m. and have removed a suspect package.

In a statement, the Army Bomb Disposal Team revealed they had "removed component parts of an Improvised Explosive Device from Store Street".

The Disposal Unit said that "the component parts were removed to a safe military installation for further examination".
