Man (85) dies in fatal house fire in south Dublin

An 85-year-old man has died following a house fire in Dublin.

Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) has confirmed that they attended the scene of a fatal house fire in Cabinteely, south Dublin, earlier this evening.

The alarm was raised shortly after 7.40pm and units, including a team of up to 20 firefighters, raced to the scene of the blaze.

A spokesperson for DFB said that they sent three engines, a senior officer, an emergency tender and an ambulance to the fire at Monaloe Crescent.

The body of the elderly man was discovered at the property by emergency respondents.

It is understood that the man's son was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

It is not yet known if there were any other occupants in the house at the time.

Gardai confirmed they are examining the scene where the fatal fire occurred. 

However, it is understood that the blaze is not currently being treated as suspicious.
