Man (77) dies after fire at home

A pensioner has died after a fire at a home in Co Wexford.

Neighbours alerted the fire service and gardaí to the blaze at the home ion Clonroche, Co Wexford around 9am.

Efforts were made to rescue the man but they were unsuccessful.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The property has been sealed off and a technical examination is underway.

Sources said the fire is not being treated as suspicious at this point.

Speaking to Independent.ie, Councillor John Fleming, who is from Clonroche, said: "The man was a friend of mine and a strong member of the community. May he rest in peace."
