Man (70) killed after being hit by car while out walking

A man (70) has killed after he was hit by a car this evening near Monaghan Town.

The incident occurred on the N2 at Killmarley, Co Monaghan, about two miles from Monaghan Town at about 5.50pm this evening.

The man was declared dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Monaghan Hospital. The male driver was the sole occupant of the car and was uninjured in the collision.

The road is closed to facilitate a Forensic collision examination and diversions are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed until 12 noon tomorrow the 21st January.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
