Man (55) dies in house fire as woman (82) hospitalised

A man has died in a house fire in Co Westmeath this morning.

The blaze started at around 3.30am at a house in Jordanstown, Ballynacargy.

A 55-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and an 82-year-old woman, believed to be his mother, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

She was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment.

The scene has been preserved while Mullingar gardaí carry out an examination and a post mortem on the mans remains will be arranged.
