Man (44) dies after fall from horse-drawn cart

A man has died after falling from a horse-drawn cart in Co Wicklow yesterday evening.

The 44 year-old was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital by ambulance but later died from his injuries.

The accident happened on Red Lane, Calary, Kilmacanogue at around 8.15pm.

The scene was preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators were due to carry out an investigation of the area.

Traffic diversions were put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnessess or anyone who was travelling on Red Lane, Calary - which is the road from Sugarloaf car park towards the N11 - yesterday evening to contact them at Bray Garda Station on 01 - 6665300.

Meanwhile, also in Co Wicklow, a motorcyclist in his 30s was killed when he and a second motorcyclist collided with a jeep on the N81 in the townland of Poulaphouca in Blessington last night.

The 33 year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Naas General Hospital where a post mortem was due to take place today.

The second male motorcyclist, a 49 year-old man, was also removed to Naas General Hospital with serious injuries.

The female driver of the jeep (61) was taken to Tallaght Hospital with minor injuries.

The scene was preserved and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators were due to carry out an investigation of the area.

Diversions were also put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnessess or anyone who was travelling on the N81 last night to contact them at Baltinglass Garda Station on 059 - 6482610, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
