GARDAI have arrested a man in connection with an air rifle shooting incident in a Cork pub that left a patron with superficial neck injuries.

The 30 year old man was detained at an address in north Cork today.

He was taken to Mallow Garda Station for questioning about the shooting incident in a Banteer pub at 8pm on Sunday evening.

The attack occurred when a man walked into the White Country Inn and fired an air rifle in the direction of a 35 year old man who was socialising with friends.

The man had spotted the individual armed with the air rifle and attempted to flee out the pub’s rear door.

However, he was struck by a pellet in the neck.

He suffered only a superficial injury.

The attacker was not wearing a mask and left the pub on foot.

Gardai attended the scene and an air rifle was located a short distance away.

It is now being forensically examined.

The 30-year-old man can be questioned for up to 72 hours.

Gardai said the pub was very crowded at the time as people celebrated the Bank Holiday weekend.

The injured man did not require hospital treatment and was able to return home on Sunday evening.

Gardai will prepare a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
