A 21-year-old man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital following a serious assault.
Gardai say a 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the serious assault yesterday.
The 21-year-old was found on the roadside at Creighan, Co Cavan at around 2pm.
He had serious injuries and was taken to Cavan Hospital for treatment.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
The 19-year-old man was arrested and detained at Cavan Garda station under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
In particular, gardai wish to speak to anyone who may have been on the Ballinagh Rd out of Cavan at Creighan between 1pm and 2pm yesterday and saw any suspicious or unusual behaviour.
