A lucky Lotto syndicate were the sole winners Saturday night’s jackpot of €2.5m.

The members of the syndicate, who wish to remain anonymous, were holidaying together in Rosslare, Co Wexford, when they bought the ticket.

They purchased the €4 quickpick ticket at An Post in Rosslare Harbour, on Saturday August 8.

The winning numbers were 9, 6, 33, 37, 40 and 44 and the bonus number was 42.

In a statement the syndicate said that they were ‘over the moon’ with the win.

"Can't believe our luck! We have lots of friends and family and we're looking forward to making their lives a whole lot easier," they said.

"Once that's done, we might even spend a bit on ourselves.

'We're going to travel more with this win, and we're heading to France, Germany and Europe later on this year.

"We're also really fond of Rosslare, so we might consider buying a mobile home there for more great Lotto winning weekends," they said.

The group also said that they were going to make a number of donations to repay their luck.

"We're going to make plenty of private donations to charities from this win," they said.

The win follows last week's €6m jackpot being scooped by Mayo man Ger Murphy, who bought the winning ticket at his brother-in-law's shop.
