Some 94pc of us are happy with our quality of life and a further 92pc are content with our health. And 95pc are satisfied with our home, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey from the European Commission.

While we're pegged 9pc above the European average in terms of personal happiness, we're less optimistic about our economy than our European neighbours, with just 24pc of us satisfied.

Issues of concern are similar across all EU countries, with 52pc of Irish respondents citing unemployment as one of the most important problems.

However, our future outlook is also more positive, as 43pc think the economic situation will be better in a year, compared with 24pc across the EU.
