LE Samuel Beckett rescues 99 migrants from dangerous vessel off Tripoli coast
The LE Samuel Beckett has rescued 99 people from an un-seaworthy craft off the coast of Tripoli this morning.
At around 9.18am (Irish time) LE Samuel Beckett located a boat with 99 people on board - 69 men and 30 women - and coordinated the transfer of the people on to a Medicins Sans Frontiére vessel.
The LE Samuel Beckett has directly rescued 562 people since its deployment on 25 September.
Previous to the LE Samuel Beckett's deployment to the Mediterranean with Operation Pontius, the LE Eithne and LE Nimah rescued 7,397 people.
LE Samuel Beckett has a crew of 59 personnel, including an Army and Air Corps medic and is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Anthony Geraghty.
