Last day of summer ends on cloudy note

Sun worshippers may despair at the official end to the warmest season of the year – and the summer doesn’t intend to go out with a bang.

This morning’s cloudy weather will turn into “some scattered outbreaks of rain”, according to Met Eireann.

“The showery rain will be occasionally heavy this afternoon, with the risk of some thunder.”

However, the forecast improves as the day continues with “drier and brighter weather” to develop in this afternoon.

The conditions will get better in the west of the country, according to the national forecaster, and will extend nationwide towards day end.

Some respite for those suffering in the muggy heat as the westerly winds are set to take the humidity out of the air.

Meanwhile, temperatures throughout the day are set to hit highs of 18 to 22 degrees.
