A new coalition came together in Kerry yesterday as two prominent local TDs joined forces in a charity office chair race.

Independent South Kerry TD Michael Healy Rae and Sinn Fein's Martin Ferris teamed up in Tralee during an event organised to raise funds for St Vincent de Paul.

The pair raced alongside a number of local celebrities and elected officials, raising more than €1,000 for the charity.

Mr Healy Rae said that he was keen to help Mr Ferris as he started to fall behind the leaders in the race.

"We were not allowed to push ourselves and were supposed to pull ourselves along with our legs but I saw a few others cheating," he said.

"They were pushing and that gave them a massive advantage over Ferris," he added.

"I saw that he was being honest and thought I would give him a bit of a dig out."

"It was a great day for a worthy cause, because the charity vitally needs support this week in the run-up to Christmas."
