Two teenage boys have been caught on camera leaping from a treacherously high bridge in Dublin's inner city.

An Independent.ie reader sent this footage of youths leaping from the now disused Sheriff St. Lifting Bridge.

The witness said everyone who was enjoying the good weather couldn't help but stare at them.

"They carefully teetered along the top before jumping in. Everyone sitting on the grass was astonished," they said.

"So many of them swim in the canal but this is reckless.

"They could have really hurt themselves. It was scary to watch."

Last month, a teenager was airlifted to hospital after leaping from a high bridge in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.

The injured swimmer was brought to Waterford Hospital for treatment after getting into difficulties.

The Coastguard has previously issued warnings in relation to the dangers of jumping from a great distance into water, as it could inflict serious spinal injuries.

Irish Water Safety has also urged the public to be cautious when around water, as the sunny weather sees more people choose to take a dip.
