The alleged incident occurred in the grounds of City Cemetery in West Belfast in the early hours of Saturday, May 30th.

The teenage girl was in the grounds when was approached by a man unknown to her who then assaulted her.

The suspect is described as being in his 40s, of medium build, clean shaven and with short black hair.

PSNI detectives have now issued an appeal urging any witnesses to contact them.

They are particularly keen to talk to a woman who assisted the teenager after the assault.

The woman is described as being in her 30s or 40s, with blonde hair which was tied up in a ponytail. It is thought she was wearing some type of uniform and was driving a red car. It stopped for the girl on the Falls Road and gave her a lift to the Downpatrick area of the city.

Detective Sergeant Gary Chambers is appealing for the woman or anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Public Protection Branch on the non-emergency number 101. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
