Gavin came out on top in the recent competition, called 'Meet your perfect match this year', despite facing opposition from a huge number of entries.

Readers were tasked with collecting 10 tokens and putting their linguistic skills to the test by coming up with the best caption to accompany a photo of the car.

Entrants had to explain in 12 words or fewer why the Opel Corsa would be their "perfect match".

Gavin's winning caption was: "I'm An Alpha Male But I'll Never Beta Corsa!"

A delighted Gavin, from Sallins in Co Kildare, was presented with his new car by Arlene Regan, Marketing Manager of the Irish Independent and Laura Condron, Senior Brand and PR Manager.

Gavin's new Opel Corsa is valued at more than €20,000.
