Gardai told independent.ie that they responded to a "material damage collision" on the street at 4.05pm this afternoon.

"There was damage to a steel railing and the wall," a garda spokesperson said.

"However, there were no injuries reported and no-one at the scene required treatment".

By the time the gardai arrived at the scene, the occupant of the car had exited the vehicle.

Dublin City council workers arrived at the scene shortly afterwards in an effort to clean up the debris.

They erected a temporary railing to replace the one that had been knocked down.
