A young woman has issued a desperate plea for help after her engagement ring and wedding band were stolen at a Halloween event.

Anne Kavanagh explained that she travelled to the Haunted Spooktacular event in Kells, Co Meath on Friday evening with four friends.

Following advice from organisers they locked their valuables, including phones, handbags and crucially the rings, in the boot of their car.

However, when they returned from the event they discovered that a rear window had been smashed and all the valuables taken.

"All our bags were taken. The gardaí came but they couldn't take any prints because they needed a flat surface. Security at the event said they didn't see or hear anything."

Ms Kavanagh's friends returned to the area on Saturday where they found the bags and purses thrown on a nearby roadway. Unfortunately the rings and phones had been taken.

"They obviously took what they wanted and threw the rest away."

Now Ms Kavanagh, who was married in 2014, has issued a plea to anyone with information to help her find the beloved rings.

The engagement ring is a rose gold band with a ruby stone surrounded by diamonds. The wedding ring is plain rose gold.

"They're blessed so they can't be replaced," Ms Kavanagh explained.

"I just want to get my rings back. Anything at all. I am just desperate to get them back. I don't care where they leave them or what I have to do to get them back.

Ms Kavanagh has issued a plea on Facebook.

A spokesperson for Grove Gardens/Haunted Spooktacular said they would like to express their sincere apologies to the parties involved in Friday nights incident.

In a statement, they added: "We at Grove Gardens/Haunted Spooktacular are deeply angered by the nature of this incident as it has cast an unwanted shadow over our otherwise popular event.

"We have been assisting with all Garda inquiries and have also issued an appeal to the public for help in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous act to justice. Security is of utmost concern to all at Grove Gardens/Haunted Spooktacular and we have a number of trained and licensed security officials in operation throughout our event.

"Thankfully this is an isolated incident but we will be taking all appropriate measures to ensure that such an incident never happens again."
