TWELVE of the world's best street performers have arrived ahead of the, 'Laya Healthcare City Spectacular,' a three-week event boasting everything from fire breathing to strait-jacket escapology.

Six-time Guinness world record holding sword swallower Aerial Manx will be one of the main draws of the festival.

"He is a back-flipping, hand-standing, sword swallower," said event producer Shell Holden.

"He is the only person in the world who is brave enough, or probably stupid enough, to do it."

This year's event promises something for all ages with the addition of a live music stage, a food village and a 'Kid's Court.'

The court will see Ray D'Arcy sitting in judgment as children put their elders on trial.

Parents should beware, however, as a guilty verdict can carry a harsh sentence.

"The kid will spin the wheel of misfortune to get a punishment for their parents," said Ms Holden. "They might pie their mum or dad in the face, super-soak them or the dad might have to dress up as a woman with a frilly wig and dress."

The festivities kick off in Merrion Square, Dublin, today.
