A father and son duo have been praised for their successful efforts in rescuing two fishermen from their sinking trawler.
Sean Flanagan and his son Donal were also fishing near Port Oriel on Ireland’s east coast when they became aware of the fishing vessel in the distance.
Volunteer RNLI member Sean alerted rescue services to the incident and sailed swiftly to the scene of the sunken Razor fishing boat.
Sean and his son managed to pull the men from the water and into the safety of their own vessel and waited for the Clogher Head RNLI life boat to arrive.
Tomas Whelan together with for other experienced crew members arrived at the location and transferred the casualties on board.
Meanwhile, Clogher Head RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat under Coxswain Tomas Whelan and with four crew members on board had launched and made its way to the scene.
Mr Whelan said: ‘We have to commend the swift actions of our lifeboat crew member Sean Flanagan who not only made the Mayday call for the emergency services but then rapidly went to the scene and rescued the two men from the sea.’
