KERRY councillor Johnny Healy-Rae said he believed the people who broke into his uncle's home knew whose house it was.

Mr Healy-Rae said although his aunt Eileen – the wife of Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae (pictured) – didn't recognise the men she disturbed at her home, he was satisfied that any bit of local knowledge would have revealed the identity of the owners.

Mrs Healy-Rae returned to her home at lunchtime on Friday to discover raiders had gained entry.

They pushed past her and made their escape in a vehicle gardai believe to be a silver 4x4 vehicle.

Nothing was taken and Mrs Healy-Rae was unhurt apart from the shock of discovering the raiders in her home.

Gardai investigating the incident believe the burglary was well planned. Cutting equipment was used to gain entry to the house, situated outside the village of Kilgarvan in Co Kerry.

The burglary is the latest in a spate of break ins in the south Kerry area and the local garda station was one of nine in that county that closed last year.
