Gardai rescue injured swan found wandering on street after crashing into Luas cables
An injured swan found wandering in Dublin's City Centre is recovering in an animal shelter today.
The swan, who was bleeding heavily from the leg, was found wandering on the city's north quays near Heuston Station yesterday afternoon.
It's understood the swan sustained the injury after flying into overhead Luas cables.
Members of the public contacted gardai and the Dublin Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) shortly after the incident.
Gardai located the distressed bird beside the quays.
DSPCA spokesperson Gillian Bird said the swan was transported to their headquarters in Rathfarnham yesterday evening.
"There was a lot of blood. The swan received a number of stitches to a wound at our shelter," she said.
The swan will be monitored by vets for the next couple of days before it is released back into the wild.
