Gardai recovered 1000 stolen beer kegs and arrested 27 people in ‘Metal Theft Action Day’ sweeps.
The sweeps took place on May 21 and 22 in Wicklow, Dublin and Cavan.
The searches were coordinated by Europol and involved authorities in 20 European countries.
A number of premises in Wicklow, Dublin and Cavan were searched and 1000 stolen beer kegs were found.
Gardai made the arrests for a variety of offences including burglary, theft and ‘related matters’ during the two-day operation.
A large number of other offences were also detected including breaches of the Road Traffic Acts, a garda statement said.
This operation was conducted with the co-operation of the Metal Theft Forum, the local authorities and other interested stake holders with responsibility for enforcing the legislation in this area.
