Published 01/07/2014 | 07:54

Two houses have been hit in a gun attack in South Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The neighbouring properties in Rathmines had their front living room windows blasted with a handgun in the incident which occurred at 1.45am.

There were people in both properties at the time.

Both homes remain sealed off by gardai this morning as members of the garda technical bureau carry out a forensic examination at the scene.

Three bullet holes can be seen in the window panes and window frame of one house, while a gunshot also broke the glass in the living room of the house immediately next door.

Gardai in Rathmines are investigating the incident.

A motive for the attack is not known at this stage.
