Gardai identify body of woman discovered on rocks at south Dublin bay

The body of a woman discovered on rocks at a Dublin bay has been identified, gardai have said.

The woman - who is believed to be between 50 to 60 years of age - was discovered at Scotsmans Bay in Sandycove Thursday morning.

She is described as being of between  5’4'' to 5’6'' in height, with red hair.

The woman was wearing a purple coat, light blue fleece, a red shirt, dark purple jeans, navy socks and brown size 40 boots. 

Her fingernails where painted purple.

Post mortem results reveal that the woman had drowned.

Gardaí do not believe the body was in the water for a long period of time.

Gardai have thanked the public for their assistance in the matter.

They are treating the matter as a personal tragedy.
