Gardai appeal for witnesses to gang assault on taxi driver

An assault on a male taxi driver and another man by a group of men has become the subject of a public witness appeal.

The man was initially involved in a row with two men at the taxi rank in Lower Sheriff Street at around 10pm on June 8.

The assailants were later joined by a large number of youths.

The taxi driver and a man who tried to intervene in the altercation were hospitalised as a result of the assault.

Two taxi cars were also extensively damaged.

Gardai at Store Street station have appealed for witnesses who may have been in the Lower Sheriff Street/ Amiens Street area around the time of the incident to come forward.
