A garda is recovering today after he was struck by a stolen car in Dublin on a busy city street.
The on-duty garda attempted to stop the car, which is believed to have been a BMW estate, when it was travelling through the College Green Bus Corridor at 8.25am.
The area is forbidden to motorists during peak commuting times in the city.
A garda spokesperson said the garda attempted to stop the car on College Street, but the driver continued on and then struck a Dublin Bus.
“A male was observed leaving the car and leaving the area on foot,” a garda spokesperson said.
Investigations are underway, and gardai are attempting to locate the driver who is still at large.
“The car shouldn’t have been there,” added a spokesperson.
A Dublin Bus spokesperson confirmed that a number 16 bus sustained minor damage in the accident.
"The car came into contact with the front of the bus. It crossed over onto the other lane."
No passengers were injured in the incident, and they were transferred to another bus on College Green.
