Gardaí investigating after baby found critically ill
A 10-week-old baby girl is fighting for life after suffering “serious injuries” in an incident earlier this week.
Independent.ie has learned that the infant was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Co Louth on Monday.
She was later transferred to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin where she remains in a critical condition.
A senior source told Independent.ie that gardaí began to carry out enquiries into the incident in the last 24 hours and they are still seeking to establish the facts of the case.
“Gardaí are liaising with medical people to establish how and when this child attained these injuries. This is key to the whole investigation.
“It’s very much based on what medical staff are going to say."
A full investigation is being led out of Ardee garda station by Superintendent Fergus Treanor. One theory being examined is the young girl fell out of a pram. However gardaí are investigating all lines of enquiry.
A garda spokesman said: "A ten-week-old girl was removed from a local hospital in Co Louth on Monday and transferred to a Dublin hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
"The circumstances of how the child received her injuries is now part of a garda investigation."
A source said officers are examining CCTV and are conducting searches of the area.
